The differential diagnosis is with pigmentary glaucoma and chronic uveitis. Ultrasound biomicroscopy is able to provide us with information on size, margins, shape and local invasion. Tumors more than 7 mm thick have a higher incidence of metastases. Plaque radiotherapy, local resection (reserved for even deep lesions, but with small implant bases), enucleation of the ocular globe (in cases of extensive melanomas in which there is no possibility of regaining sight), charged-particle radiotherapy is recommended: available in a few specialized centers, it allows to obtain results similar to plate radiotherapy but with fewer side effects on the anterior segment.
